Hello and welcome. My name is Karen and I am the Founder of Thrive Through Art. I am a self taught artist, working in various mediums and creating with crafts. I have always believed in the benefits that being creative can bring, and have been promoting the arts in different communities for over 12 years. Specifically working with the elderly, those with disabilities and children.
Nowadays we all seek a more balanced way of life, as life can be very demanding and stressful at times. Seeking out that space for 'Us' to be present, seek calm and relaxation. Being creative through the practice of art can have so many benefits and can be a Mindfulness practice in itself; helping us to reduce stress and anxiety, release endorphins and can create a sense of fulfilment, and a more positive, rounded, resilient person.
The process of creating art can help us to express ourselves in a non-verbal way; gaining a greater sense of who we are, building confidence and self-esteem, developing our own creativity, igniting our imagination and unearthing our own creative possibilities.
Art can be a place for solitude or can also bring communities together.
Our work centres around working with the elderly, young adults with learning disabilities in their care setting; bringing a diverse range of art and craft sessions to their home. Each session is tailored to the needs of the home and its residents; understanding and supporting those too that may have Dementia, disabilities or other needs. We are flexible and dynamic in our approach, helping and supporting those that may need more hands on support, and always ensuring that every participant leaves the session with a sense of achievement.
Using the creative process as a mindfulness tool; children learn to thrive through art practice and experimentation. It can help children who may suffer with anxiety to build confidence and self-esteem, gain a greater sense of who they are through self expression, achieving a sense of fulfilment and positivity.
Tailored to the needs of the individual, one to one sessions can be held within care homes; working with those that may be bed bound, or those that need more focussed sessions. Working with individuals that reside at home and need companionship. One to one's include working with children who are Autistic, or having additional needs and are seeking the sanctuary of their home but would thrive from having focussed, tailored art and craft sessions.
